Small Scale LNG

The new Collesanto Small Scale LNG development project offers a series of benefits for the local area and the environment. Here they are, point by point.

  • It is the first Small scale LNG project in Italy built directly in a natural gas field.
  • It will produce 2 billion cubic meters of gas for local consumption.
  • This LNG is sourced locally in an energy-intensive industrial area.
  • The guaranteed local supply of natural gas in the form of LNG is equal to 40,800 tons/year on average.
  • It will contribute to a cleaner Abruzzo through the use of LNG for road and maritime transport.
  • It will enhance the competitiveness of local industry.
  • This represents a new investment of approximately €70 million in capital expenditure, creating over 500 jobs during its construction and a multiplier effect on the local economy.
  • This involves a local production, with gas costs lower than those purchased from Russia and abroad.
  • No new drilling is required beyond the existing, already drilled wells.
  • Pipelines and auxiliary infrastructure for the gas collection network will no longer be necessary.
  • It will be the first gas liquefaction plant in Europe with simultaneous hydrogen production from an electrolyser and CO₂ capture and liquefaction, avoiding the release of approximately 1,400 tons of CO₂ per year into the atmosphere.
