2009-2019 Previous project

  • Positioning of the two existing wells MP1 and MP2 into production along with a maximum of three additional development wells.
  • Gas production from the field: up to 650,000 Sm³/day.
  • Construction of a 21 km pipeline from Bomba to Atessa and connection to the SNAM network.
  • Sale of produced natural gas through the nearest SNAM station in Atessa.

2022 New “Small Scale LNG” project

  • Retention of the two existing wells (the three new wells will not be drilled).
  • Reduction of natural gas extraction by more than 50%, with an average of only 40,800 tons/year of LNG, as it is a small-scale facility.
  • Elimination of the 21 km Bomba–Atessa gas pipeline and no connection to the SNAM network.
  • Liquefied gas will be transported by road using only five tanker trucks per day, with no on-site storage.
  • CO₂ capture and liquefaction, resulting in sustainable emissions compared to the previous project.
  • Facilities connected to hydrogen production via electrolysis (the first example in Europe).
In addition, Small Scale LNG will be linked to a transparent, real-time environmental monitoring plan (soon available online on this website) that will manage data on micro-seismicity, subsidence, pore pressures, and atmospheric emissions. These data will be recorded by the Designated Monitoring Supervisor – DMS (appointed by national and regional authorities), including institutions such as INGV, CNR, universities, and other independent research organizations.
